Jenkins County was created on August 17, 1905, from parts of Bulloch, Burke, Emanuel, and Screven counties. It became Georgia’s 140th county.
Millen had stood near the corner of four large counties, creating jurisdiction and travel problems. Local residents successfully petitioned for a new county centered on the town.
