The population increased from an April 2020 estimates base of 14,827 to 16,415 in 2025, a gain of 10.7 percent. Housing demand from the Athens region is strongest in western areas near Clarke County and Arnoldsville.
Even with that growth, Oglethorpe County remains primarily rural. Farms, cattle land, poultry operations, timber, and low-density homes occupy much of the county outside the four incorporated towns.

Lexington’s courthouse and political history
