Kissimmee and County Government

Kissimmee is the county seat and contains the courthouse, principal county offices, hospitals, commerce, lodging, transportation, and visitor services. Historic downtown is near the Lake Tohopekaliga waterfront.

The U.S. Route 192 corridor supports hotels, restaurants, retail, and services for visitors traveling to the Orlando theme-park area.

St. Cloud and Eastern Growth

St. Cloud lies south of East Lake Tohopekaliga and contains neighborhoods, schools, waterfront parks, and expanding development in eastern Osceola County.

County history notes that St. Cloud was founded in 1909 and became known for its early Union Army veteran community.

Lake Tohopekaliga and Water Recreation

Lake Tohopekaliga, commonly called Lake Toho, is the largest lake in Osceola County. Fishing, boating, birdwatching, and waterfront parks are important activities.

Official tourism guidance notes fish camps, boat ramps, charters, and guides around Lake Toho and other local lakes. Water levels and weather should be checked before travel.

Celebration, Poinciana, and Northwestern Growth

Celebration is a planned community, while Poinciana is a large residential area extending across Osceola and Polk counties. Tourism, lodging, and suburban housing are concentrated in the northwest.

Development boundaries and roads change frequently, so current county GIS information is important.

Southern Ranch Country and the Kissimmee River

Southern Osceola County contains Lake Kissimmee, the Kissimmee River, large ranches, wetlands, and prairie landscapes. Kenansville and nearby communities are much less densely populated than the northwestern urban area.

River-restoration areas support wildlife, paddling, and conservation. Current management maps are required for detailed travel.
