The county summary begins with agriculture at 84.21%. Forest is the next largest natural class at 8.69%, followed by developed land at 6.89%. Water occupies 0.13% and wetlands 0.06%. Those small water and wetland shares are difficult to appreciate from percentages alone because they occur in narrow or scattered places rather than as a large lake or wetland block.
Most of the western side appears as a nearly continuous agricultural background interrupted by thin developed lines and small settlement clusters. Farther east, green forest cover becomes much more frequent and forms irregular branches through the farm matrix. The southern edge also contains a heavier concentration of forest than the broad northwestern farm area, so the county reads as more than a simple field grid.

This simplified view makes the east-west contrast clearer: large agricultural areas dominate the west, while forest forms more frequent branches and patches in the east and along parts of the south.
The branching form of the forest is worth noticing. Instead of one large forest block, many green areas are long, irregular, and connected to smaller side branches. That shape is useful when comparing habitat continuity or natural cover within a heavily farmed landscape. The map alone, however, does not identify each branch as a particular stream corridor, preserve, or ownership unit.

Class differences from 1985 to 2025 are limited in area but widely scattered

Very small reproductions can hide narrow forest strips and small change pixels, so a larger display is preferable when those details matter.
A 30-meter raster is useful at county scale, not as a parcel survey
Annual NLCD is a Landsat-based raster product with 30-meter cells. A raster divides the ground into a regular grid and assigns a representative value to each cell. Small roads, narrow streams, tree rows, lawns, buildings, and field edges can therefore be mixed inside one cell rather than drawn as precise vector boundaries.
Legal land use also requires separate records. A cell classified as agriculture does not mean that the parcel is zoned only for farming, and developed cover does not establish a right to build.
